20th July 2020 - General Catch Up with Flowers and Ferns and Views etc....

Most of my time over the last month has been tied up with my studies of the beautiful Dark Red Helleborine (Epipactis atrorubens and should you wish to catch up with some of the specimens I encountered please check the diary pages by clicking here

Getting back to the regular (from 20th July 2020), Where do I start, well over the last day or two I have found some beautiful Ferns whilst walking around Hutton Roof.  Yesterday I found a well scolloped scollie (Harts Tongue Fern) and a strange looking Hard Shield (Aculeatum),  I just had to visit 3 of the 5 Beech Fern colonies, and later checked out some cracking Lady Ferns, and Broad Buckler and finishing off with a Rusty Back or Ceterach at top of Lancelot (CWT). Here are some photos

Going back now to the 1st July 2020 whilst heading over Uberash Roughs to a tip off regarding a special pallens specimen of Atrorubens (Dark Red Helleborine) over there, I wanted to collect some photos showing young P.Aculeatums (Hard Shield Ferns) but I was constantly find clumps of the beautiful Lesser Meadow Rue, so would like to show you some of the photos I took.

I dont think I have ever seen so many aculeatums, well you might guess I had to search everyone of them, maybe a thousand or more, but all interesting to see so many variants amongst them and to get some good photos of the immatures.  These are always interesting photos to show for comparison against the rare Holly Ferns, but the next photo is just a straight classic acueleatum and another photo showing the rear and its sori.
