Visible Bird Migration over Hunting Hill, Carnforth (10th Sept 2011)

Saturday September 10th 2011
Hunting Hill, Carnforth, Lancs.
0900hrs - 1230hrs.
Wind: Southerly 10-25mph
All Movement S unless stated.

Today was better, well at least with the Swallows. First hour nothing much on sides of Hunting Hill, but later dropped down to almost sea level on the Carnforth side, almost 40 yards behind the railway and old cooling tower. This is where they where going through and a steady trickle throughout the watch. Never more than a 3 to 4 minute gap between. Still going through just as strong on leaving. Other stuff still very quiet..

Swallow: 534 (best parties 21,17)
House Martin: 15
Sand Martin: 1
Goldfinch: 33 (One party 25)
Chaffinch: 7
Greenfinch: 1
Linnet: 3
Alba Wagtail: 7
Meadow Pipit: 23

Also: One small skein of 12 Greylags moving S down coast...

Also to say there was little in the way of sunshine, but yet still warm, I had several Small Tortoishell Butterflies, one Large White, and my first of the year and late I would have thought Painted Lady.
